Secret of Shadow Ranch: The daily chores are a little annoying but I love that this game is long, merges an old story with the modern-day mystery, has a few locations to explore, has a clever ending puzzle, and has the slightly desolate and lonely desert vibe throughout. The later games are much better than the earlier The author hasn't played all the games, they haven't even finished HAU but gave it the only 10/10 rating, and as much as I dislike TMB there's no way it should rank below SCK2. It's arguably the game that sucked us all in to the franchise and the one with probably the most nostalgia, which is a testament to its legacy. While there aren't too many puzzles, this was a game where it was honestly fun to just walk around and explore.

It has super cool areas like the library and Marie Antoinette's tower, probably the most classic character list (Dexter, Jacques, and Hotchkiss) as well as the best Bess, George, and Ned in the series imo. To this day it still has the best atmosphere, a massive castle with a soothing soundtrack gives you a real Romantic era French feeling. Cool puzzles involving Mayan history, good characters, an eerie/spooky museum, and a pretty scary finale, it was a blast to play! The fact that the jade pieces are scattered across North America gives the game a much larger scale and makes it feel more epic. It's also super cool to see downtown Kyoto and all the mini games that are actually fun (pachinko, grading, bento etc.)Īn awesome mystery. This game really sucks you into the family's tragedy and drama and gives the game an interesting personal element that isn't usually present in the other games. SUPER challenging and creative puzzles (from the Japanese subway system to the shadow box), a great mystery, and really good characters. It amazes me that the franchise came out with a game of such high quality that was honestly one of the best so deep into the franchise's existence (it was over 10 years old by the time it came out). The last of classic games was most definitely a hit! It arguably has one of the best cast of characters in the series that makes it especially fun. You really feel like your unraveling an incredible mystery and I love all the crazy steampunk contraptions. I love the treasure hunting feel to this game, reminds me of the Goonies or Indiana Jones. Fantastic puzzles that can be really challenging, a dark tone and a genuinely interesting mystery, it honestly has everything you'd want imo. Its connection with English history makes it super interesting, especially with the medieval forge, the witchcraft element, the mutus liber etc. It's insanely creepy and the game really gives you the impression that it might be haunted as it progresses. Far none, this one is the complete package for story, setting, puzzles, and atmosphere.
